Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
The Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program is part of Canada's Express Entry system, allowing skilled trade workers to apply for permanent residence. It provides a fast-track option for individuals in technical and trade occupations.
Eligibility for the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST)
Eligibility Criteria:
- Work Experience: At least 2 years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the last 5 years.

- Language Proficiency: Minimum CLB 5 in speaking and listening, and CLB 4 in reading and writing.

Step-by-Step Application Guide:
Step 1: Check Your Eligibility
Ensure you meet the eligibility requirements, including work experience, language proficiency, and a valid job offer or certificate of qualification.
Step 2: Take a Language Test
All FST applicants must take a recognized language test in English or French:
- For English: IELTS (General Training) or CELPIP (General).
- For French: TEF Canada or TCF Canada.
Step 3: Get a Certificate of Qualification
If you do not have a job offer, you must obtain a certificate of qualification for your trade from a Canadian authority.
Step 4: Create an Express Entry Profile
Create an Express Entry profile on the IRCC website and provide details about your work experience, language test results, and other required information.
Step 5: Enter the Express Entry Pool
Your CRS score will determine your ranking in the Express Entry pool, and candidates with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residency.
Step 6: Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
If your CRS score meets the cutoff, you will receive an ITA for permanent residency. You will have 60 days to submit your complete application.
Step 7: Submit Your Application
Submit your application through your Express Entry account, including your supporting documents (language test results, work experience, certificates, etc.).
Step 8: Wait for Processing
Your application will typically be processed within 6 months, after which you may receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR).
Step 9: Move to Canada
With your COPR, you can move to Canada and complete the landing process to become a permanent resident.
